Elijah: Knowing God’s Power

A Sermon on 1 Kings 18: 16-40 by Pastor Allan Santos

Watch the sermon here.

Introduction

Prophet Elijah’s faith was tested in Mount Carmel when he fought against the 450 prophets of Baal. Moreover, he also defied King Ahab and Jezebel and rebuked them because they abandoned the commandments of the Lord and served other gods. Prophet Elijah showed his dependence and immeasurable faith in God’s power as he made a stand to serve the true and only God of Israel.

Outline

  1. Elijah’s brave stand in God’s sovereignty (vv.16-24)

  2. Elijah’s challenge to Baal’s prophets and his buoyant faith in God (vv.25-35)

  3. God’s power is displayed in Elijah’s battle (vv.25-35)

Life Application

  1. The Lord empowered Elijah to perform one of the greatest miracles in the Old Testament. The Lord heard his prayers and his unswerving faith that God is alive and the One who has been sustaining and leading the people of Israel.

  2. Learn to make a stand for your faith especially if others are questioning it. Be bold in proclaiming God’s power and moving in your life.

  3. Always remember that the Lord will always deliver and answer our prayers and if we live in the center of His will.
