Introduction
How do you respond to God’s blessings in your life? When was the last time you praised God with a joyous heart even though you are in the midst of challenges and struggles in life? Most of us will agree that God has blessed us far more than we realized and deserved. God is so worthy of our thanksgiving because of His goodness and faithfulness in our lives. Today, let us reflect on how Jesus bestowed healing to the ten lepers and how He commended a leper because of his faithfulness and gratefulness to God.
Outline
The ten lepers’ request to Jesus for Mercy (vv.11-13)
Jesus bestowed healing and gave instruction to the lepers (v.14)
The Samaritan leper’s worship and thanksgiving to Jesus (vv.15-16)
Jesus’ expectation of gratefulness from the other lepers (vv.17-19)
Life Application
One of the great lessons from this passage is that Jesus expects us to show gratitude. In the account of the thankful leper, Jesus is clearly disappointed at the ungratefulness of the nine lepers who didn't return. We must train ourselves to show thanks, to give thanks, and to be filled with thanksgiving. Without being thankful, we won't be pleasing Jesus.
God’s mercy is available to all people. The ten lepers were rejected, scorned, and humiliated by people around them because of their sickness. However, Jesus accepted them and bestowed healing upon them so that they could go back to their families and live a meaningful life.
Let us develop a daily rhythm of thanking God for His love every morning and His faithfulness every evening. Do not allow a day to pass without being grateful for God’s mercy and goodness in your life.
