Life-Changing Faith
A Sermon on Joshua 2:1-24 by Pastor Allan Santos
Watch the sermon here.
Introduction
God rewards faith with His salvation, even to the worst and guiltiest of sinners. In our study today, we will meet a woman of faith that is included in the “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11:31. She is Rahab, a member of the only family in Jericho whom God allowed Israel to spare. Because of Rahab’s faith, not only was her life spared, but she also experienced the promises He had made to Israel, which God extended to her. She became an ancestor of both King David and Jesus.
Outline
Rahab was a dishonourable sinner in a condemned city (vv.1-3)
Rahab’s conviction to hid God’s messengers (vv.4-7;15-17)
Rahab’s strong faith in God’s greatness (vv.8-13)
Rahab’s entire household’s safety is established (vv.18-20)
God’s power and promises confirmed by the spies (vv.22-24)
Life Lessons from God’s Word:
Rahab was a prostitute. She was selling herself for money and to gain favor before men. However, she had one great redeeming factor in her favor - she believed in God and was willing to change and be part of God’s family. God will accept, love, and use us despite of our past sins.
Rahab grasped and understood the sovereignty of God on how He protected, guided, and sustained the Nation of Israel out of Egypt. How are you seeing God’s sovereignty in your life this new year?
The spies that Joshua sent to Jericho affirmed that God’s promises and working are accurate and true. They believed that God has given the City of Jericho to the Israelites. Are you confident and enthusiastic that God’s promises are true and will be fulfilled?
