MOSES: Abiding in God’s Leading
A Sermon on Exodus 3:1-22 by Pastor Shafer Parker
Watch the sermon here.
Introduction
Moses is the first to reveal his internal struggle as he is called to obey God. But in spite of the difficulties he could foresee, the New Testament tells us that Moses “was faithful in all God’s house” (Heb. 3:2). He stayed in God’s leading. God help us to do the same.
How Moses’ Life Brought Him to the Burning Bush
Born into a world of persecution
Born to parents prepared to keep him alive
Saved by Pharaoh’s daughter
Raised in Pharaoh’s household (instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, Acts 7:22)
Accepted the “reproach of Christ” and chose loyalty to his birth parents (Heb. 11:24-28)
Killed an Egyptian at age 40, fled to Midian, where he married Jethro’s daughter.
Tended sheep until he was 80. By this point all thought of fomenting an uprising had flown.
At 80, God spoke to Moses and renewed the vision placed in Moses’ heart four decades earlier.
Why did Moses abide in God’s leading?
Because he learned to fear God. (Vv. 3-6)
Because God had high expectations of him (Vv. 7-10)
Because God promised to go with him (Vv. 11-12)
Because of the nature and character of God revealed in his Name (Vv. 13-15)
Because God keeps his promises (Vv. 16-17)
Because God knows everything (Vv. 18-22)
