Joshua’s Godly Advice

A Sermon on Joshua 23 by Pastor Allan Santos

Watch the sermon here.

Introduction

Joshua was a great and faithful servant of God. He inspired the whole nation of Israel to be faithful in obeying God and submitting to His leading and will. Chapter 23 of the Book of Joshua will give us a portrait of Joshua’s last exhortation to his people to remain faithful and loyal to God. He gave the entire people of Israel his farewell address of challenge and warning. May we all take heed of Joshua’s message to cleave unto the Lord and be devoted to His will.

Outline

  1. Joshua revealed his forthcoming death and remembered God’s faithfulness to Israel. (vv.1-7)

  2. Joshua exhorted the children of Israel to be loyal and cleave unto the Lord. (vv.8-11)

  3. Joshua’s warning about the dangers of being unfaithful to the Lord. (vv.12-16)

Life Application from God’s Word

  1. Joshua always reminded the Israelites of God’s love and faithfulness to all of them. He then challenged them to cleave and to trust in Him for protection and provision as they live in the Promised Land. May we all hear and be mindful of Joshua’s godly advice to all of us.

  2. Joshua warned the people of Israel to not be complacent in their walk with the Lord. He clearly stated the enormous possibility for them to serve other idols. Let us exert all efforts for us to not be complacent and to not compromise with the pleasures and pressures of this world.

  3. The Lord has been faithful and good to Joshua and the entire Israelite Nation despite their offences and faithlessness in their voyage. May we all remember that God is good and worthy of our trust as we journey in this challenging and sinful world.
