Perseverance: Be Persistent and Committed

A Sermon on Philippians 3:7-21 by Pastor Allan Santos

Watch the sermon here.

Introduction

The Apostle Paul encouraged the Philippian Church to persevere and focus on Jesus in times of suffering, persecutions and struggles in life.  He also stressed out that as followers and children of God, our goal is to mature and deepen our knowledge of God and His works in our lives. Moreover, Paul urged the believers not to focus their satisfaction and happiness on earthy things (Phil. 3:19). Instead, we should be faithful as we await the coming of the Lord (Phil. 3:20-21).

Outline

  1. Paul’s commitment was to know, serve and glorify Jesus in his life (vv.7-11)

  2. Paul’s persistent courage to live for God’s purpose and calling (vv.12-16)

  3. Paul’s charge to be faithful, and committed in journeying with Jesus (vv.17-21)

Life Application:

  1. Paul's motto and goal in life is "to live for Christ". He was not pre-occupied with his achievements, successes or even riches of this world. Are you committed to living for Christ and obeying His will in your life?

  2. Let us be courageous by keeping our eyes on Jesus because He will guide us as we cross the finish line triumphantly. As we make our relationship with Jesus our daily priority, the Holy Spirit will empower us to endure the Christian race so we can finish it victoriously and with joy.

  3. May we always acknowledge that God’s power is greater than our adversity and problems in life.  God is present as we face and fight our battles every day. (2 Chronicles 32:7-8)
