Hope: God is the Source of Our Confidence

Introduction
We all observed and experienced the uncertainties and vulnerabilities of the world we live in, especially in times of crisis. Nowadays, a lot of people are searching for peace and sense of security. Where do you find hope, strength, and confidence in these stressful days?
Psalm 71 is a prayer of an aged believer that affirms God’s faithfulness and sustenance in the seasons of his life. It is also a prayer that asks for God’s protection from his enemies and the troubles that he was facing. At the end of this psalm, we will see that the psalmist displayed his complete trust and hope in God in everything.
Outline
The security in God’s refuge and strength (vv.1-8)
The Psalmist’s prayer for God’s protection from his enemies (vv.9-13)
The Psalmist declared his complete hope for God’s deliverance (vv.14-18)
God’s great works and goodness proclaimed and celebrated (vv.19-24)
Life Application:
The reason that the psalmist was able to endure his challenges as an old man was that he developed a good relationship with the Lord. He had a proven resource in the Lord, which enabled him to be strong inside, even though his body was growing weaker, and his enemies are powerful. May we all be faithful in our personal relationship with the Lord.
The Psalmist did not forget to praise God for His faithfulness and goodness in his life even in life’s uncertainties. May we all develop a habit of pronouncing our trust, praise, and hope in God. Let us avoid becoming habitual worriers and whiners.
Let us not focus on the discouraging events in our world today that will lead us to be pessimists and hopeless. As God’s children, we should be the kind of person that lives in God’s promises and embraces an undying hope in the Lord until the day that He comes back again.
