Introduction
The story of the first Christmas will fully explain to us that we need to understand, hear, and follow God’s leading for us to understand His will in our lives. Joseph and Mary were engaged to each other and are to be married. Then the Lord called both to be part of His plan and purpose in the coming of our Lord Jesus here on earth. Each of them was put in a dilemma that is not easy to navigate but their love and faith in God allowed them to experience His blessings, provisions, and protection upon their lives.
Outline
God’s call for Mary to conceive and bear Jesus (Lk. 1:26-31; 34-35)
Mary’s obedience to God’s will brought joy in her life (Lk. 1:36-38)
God’s will for us is to see Jesus’ authority, sovereignty, and His coming kingdom. (Luke 1:32-33)
God’s will is thought-provoking but life-changing (Mt. 1:18-19)
God’s will is powerful and empowering when we submit to it. (Mt. 1:20-25)
Life Application
We have witnessed in Joseph and Mary’s life that God’s will put their lives to a certain struggle that was not easy to handle and entailed wholehearted commitment. Obeying God’s will in our lives is not easy and may be challenging. However, as you obey God’s will in your life, you will witness God’s working power that will help you to obey it and, in the end, you will experience fulfillment and joy in life.
This Christmas, may we give thanks to God in whatever situations we are experiencing. Even when your funds are quite short, you are sick, you have a lot of concerns and struggles, and may you learn to trust and depend on God. Let us be sensitive to those “God moments” in our lives. Trust that God will sustain and protect you as you follow His will in your lives.
