Introduction

Welcome to our new preaching series titled, “Jesus Brings the Gift of Hope.” This preaching series will encourage and challenge us to set our eyes on Jesus, the Giver of hope who came to this world to show His unconditional love and to seek those who are lost and need a Saviour.

Christmas is a wonderful time for us to reflect and show our complete hope and devotion to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As God’s children, it is vital for us to place our trust solely to Jesus even if our situation is challenging and not promising this Christmas. Let us learn from the wise people in the story of the first Christmas who showed determination, bravery, and commitment for them to see, worship and give their gifts to Jesus.

Outline

  1. The religious leaders’ apathetic heart towards Jesus and His coming kingdom (vv.1-6)

  2. King Herod’s devious intention and evil desire to get rid of Jesus (vv.7-8; 16-18)

  3. The worshipful attitude and the gratefulness of the Magi for seeing Jesus the Messiah (vv.9-12)

  4. God’s hand of protection and provision upon Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus as they fulfilled God’s calling (vv. 13-15)

Life Application:

  1. May we learn from the wise men who showed their commitment, bravery and yearning to meet and know Jesus. Their gifts to Jesus displayed their wholehearted worship to the King of kings. What gifts will you offer to Jesus this Christmas season?

  2. Let us be grateful for how Jesus continually sustains and shows His unconditional love to us. May we honour Him by proclaiming that He is the reason for this season.

  3. Joseph and Mary modelled to us how to completely obey and commit to doing God’s will. Is your passion to know Jesus in your life and to follow His will still alive? Are you still committed to honoring and serving Jesus even if you need to give up your wants, rights and plans for your life?
