Introduction
When we discourse about Christmas, we will always remember the role of Mary and Joseph. Joseph and Mary were engaged to each other and in the process of their marriage. Then the Lord called both to be part of His plan and purpose in the coming of our Lord Jesus here on earth. Both were simple people who made a difference and became an embodiment of heartfelt service and obedience to God’s plan.
Outline
Joseph’s frustration and objective reaction to his frustrations (Matthew 1:18-19)
Joseph’s resilient choice to trust and obey God’s Will (Matthew 1:20-25)
Mary’s calling and amazement of God’s commands (Luke 1:26-31; 34-35)
Mary’s complete surrender to God’s leading (Luke 1:36-38)
Jesus’ authority, sovereignty and kingdom established during the first Christmas (Luke 1:32-33)
Life Application:
Mary and Joseph were just ordinary people in Nazareth and their circumstances were not ideal, but the Lord still chose them because of their faithfulness. Both obeyed and showed their undying commitment to God’s plan even though they know that they will face a lot of criticisms, obstacles, and struggles.
Mary worshipped and praise God even in the verge of uncertainty and overwhelming purpose of God in her life (Luke 1:46-49). Just life Mary, we can pause in the uncertainty and praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy in our lives.
Jesus’ authority and sovereignty are established and shown throughout the Scriptures. Jesus knows our present condition, and nothing is outside of His control. What are the things that you worry of and fear today? Trust that God will sustain and protect us as we follow His calling in our lives.
