A Sermon on Isaiah 9 by Pastor Greg Butt

Introduction

What are your hopes for Christmas 2021? Does it have to do with your career, your future or your family? Maybe some of you were thinking ‘I hope it’s worth my time coming today? ‘I hope this preacher will say something sensible and not bore me?!!!’ Life can only give us so much hope, but today you can find hope for more than a season.

It’s interesting that the common theme around the original Christmas story centered around light; a bright star that gave the wise men hope as they journeyed. The host of bright angels lighting up the night sky singing gave the shepherds hope as they ran excitedly toward Bethlehem. And the beautiful thing about the light that the birth of Christ brought can give you hope that lasts far beyond Christmas.  In fact, it can carry us forever! Let us learn from Isaiah 9.

Outline

  1. There’s hope in light banishing darkness.

  2. There’s hope in light that brings honor to despised people.

  3. There’s hope in light that lifted the shadow of death.

There is a reason Jesus is called The Way. In your darkest days remember three little words: “Hope in God”

Jesus came down — and a bit of heaven can begin now, even here. With every step, we are walking into our forever now.

Come let Jesus touch your wounds & heal your hurt with His HOPE.

This Advent, stay in the Story that the rest of your year, your family, will need.

Hope in Jesus and your Hope goes wherever you go because Jesus goes with you.
