A Sermon on Ephesians 5:1-21 by Pastor Allan Santos

Introduction
When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we were born again, we entered God’s household, and we became totally distinct and special people. As God’s children, it is natural for us to devote and submit our lives to God’s purpose and glory. The Apostle Paul gave an encouraging counsel to us in Ephesians chapter 5 to choose love, to guard ourselves against contamination by this sinful world and to walk in light and wisdom that God is giving us every day.
Outline
Choose love and commit to please God. (vv.1-2)
Guard yourself against temptations and pleasures of this world. (vv.3-6)
Walk in light as we honor God in our everyday living. (vv.7-14)
Live in the wisdom that God provides as we journey with Him. (vv.15-18a)
Be filled with the Holy Spirit, worship God and be grateful. (vv.18b-21)
Life Application
Devoting our life to God means we commit to pleasing, worshipping and loving God in our everyday living. This also means that we choose to love and understand others even if it is hard and seems irrational. Remember, Jesus gave His life to us willingly and without complain, not because we are worthy of it, but because of His great love for us.
Paul exhorted us not to get involved and not to indulge with the ways, sins, and corrupt principles of this world. As God’s children, we must fight against and decontaminate ourselves from the temptations and pleasures of this world that will turn us away from God.
Let us all be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
